Therfield Alumni - Class of 87 Reunion

Friends reunited after 20 years

Staying in touch with friends from school is one of those things we put on our list of New Year's Resolutions but rarely get round to doing. But for one Fetcham resident, the chance to see her old schoolmates from Therfield School after 20 years proved irresistible, so she set about organising a school reunion.

Michelle Marsh, 36, a mother-of-two from Hilly Field Road, Fetcham, said: "The idea was hatched in a pub between myself and Mark Parris - a schoolfriend I had stayed in touch with - to see how many people we could get from the class of 1987 to come down and celebrate." Michelle and Mark managed to track down most of their schoolfriends through websites such as Facebook and Friends Reunited.

At the event, which was held on November 24 at the Leatherhead and District Social Club, more than 80 people showed up.

Michelle said: "There were people there who we hadn't seen in years and who you would hardly recognise now, but there were also people who had stayed the same and were instantly recognisable. "It was such a friendly atmosphere and one lady even came up to me and apologised for how horrible she had been to me at school, but we could laugh about it now and got on very well."

The reunion was such a success that Michelle has vowed to continue organising them and has already planned one for next summer. She said: "My years at Therfield were some of the best of my life and full of great memories."
