STAFF CHANGES
Each term sadly sees the departure of some staff. This time we say farewell to:
Miss Christine Ford after 13 years of service to Therfield pupils.
Mr. P. Beck to be Head of Sixth Form at Felpham School, Bognor. Miss R. Allott to Deputy Head of Maths at George Abbot School. Mrs. R. Treen, Mrs. K. Banerji, Mrs. H. James, Mrs. L. Roberts, Mrs. H. Abell, Mrs. R. Lucas.

We thank each of them for their contribution to the education of young people in the Leatherhead area and wish them every happiness for the future.

PARENTS' EVENINGS
During the year I wrote to all parents asking for their views on the format of parents' evenings. The results were very clear. Parents preferred tutor based evenings for Second Year pupils, but as pupils got older so there was increasingly strong demand for subject based evenings and this we will try to honour in the coming year.

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
1) New Music Accommodation A new Music Room will be built during the summer holidays and a suite of practice rooms will be built during the Autumn Term.
2) Computer Facilities Thanks to the extreme generosity of the Friends, Therfield will have a second Computer Room, hopefully ready for September.
3) The Certificate of Pre-Vocational Education. This is a one year course for Sixth Form pupils starting this September. Two base rooms will be set up and we are very grateful to the Friends' Provident Insurance Group for a generous donation of £2,500 to help equip one of these rooms as a Business Studies facility.
4) Chartered Librarian Therfield will have the services of a fully qualified Chartered Librarian as from the beginning of term.
5) Satellite Receiving Equipment This is now in school and we are regularly downloading weather information and will soon have access to much more scientific data. A new Satellite & Electronics Club has been formed for interested pupils.
6) Clubs and Societies At the present moment Therfield plans to have 38 clubs and societies next year.
7) Juniper House has now raised enough money to provide another guide dog for the blind.
8) Two handicapped pupils have been spending some time working with some of our second years in the CDT department.
9) Public Examinations Pupils from Therfield have sat examinations in 37 different subjects this summer. Results are awaited.

INSURANCE
The Headmaster has details of an insurance scheme covering accidents to pupils at school, with cover up to £100,000. Some parents had expressed interest and details can be obtained from the school office.

SCHOOL VISITS TO VIENNA/BUDAPEST AND RUSSIA
Mr. du Mont has arranged a visit to Vienna and Budapest from 2nd to 9th April 1988. There are some places available for pupils from years 3 to 6. If you are interested in your son/daughter joining this party, Mr. du Mont will be pleased to provide further details. He would like to finalise the party by the end of September.

Mr. Goldhawk has a provisional booking for a visit to Russia from 31st December 1988 to 7th January 1989. This party will be limited to 6th Form at that time. Further details will be circulated early next term.

REQUESTS FOR HELP
We would be grateful to hear from anyone who could help us with any of the following.
1) A room to let for the French Assistante (a young lady), preferably very cheap as they are only paid a pittance.
2) For the Drama Department: a reel to reel tape recorder - 2 channels; turntable; amplifier; speakers, at least two; mixer; cassette player.
3) A signwriter who could provide some cheap signs for us.
4) A curved reception desk for our front hall.

Finally, may I wish you all a very happy Summer Holiday.
