Thank you to all who responded on the Glyn-Rosebery issue. We are sending 645 signatures of protest to the Department of Education.

Mrs. J. Leeming will be Head of Geography with Mr. R. Moorhouse as a teacher in that department.

We have just taken delivery of the memorial lectern to Matthew Poole, the plaque on which reads - "In memory of Matthew Poole, a much respected student of Therfield School and a trustworthy friend - 1980-1994". The balance of the money subscribed will endow an annual prize - a trophy known as "The Matthew Poole Trophy for Services to School Sport". I hear that Matthew's work for the children's home at Cristuru Secuiesc, Romania has been recognised by his Church at Cobham - they are using the £2,750 sent instead of floral tributes to go towards building an adventure playground at the home; this will be named after him.

I am sure everyone who saw the school's brilliant production of Kiss Me Kate will want to congratulate all those involved. We hope the local paper will carry a review and pictures.

Congratulations too to the artists who had work on view at the superb A Level Art exhibition.

PUPIL ACHIEVEMENT
For the third year in succession Therfield won the Pearne Trophy for School of the Year at Surrey Schools Sailing Association Regatta held at Hayling Island at the beginning of July. We also won the Ken Grace Trophy for gaining the most RYA Proficiency Certificates . Emily Porter was awarded the David Graham Wood trophy for Seaman of the Year, with Phillip Haines taking the Austin Trophy for Crew of the Year. Other first places went to Alistair Tudor, James Angus, Robert Hardwick and Paul Bennie.

The Lower School Singers who took part in the performance of 'All God's Creatures' at Guildford Cathedral in March could be heard on Classic FM on 6th July when the recording was broadcast. If you missed the broadcast don't worry, Keith Willis, Head of Surrey Youth Music and Performing Arts, reports that they will be recording and videoing the performance at the Royal Albert Hall on October 31st.

The P. E. department would welcome help from parents from time to time. If you have any coaching skills, an interest in sport or be willing to offer the occasional lift to matches please contact Miss Jefford at school.

First prize in the Friends' Grand Raffle was won by Ken Oxenham. Other prizewinners were Maggie Hannen, Ann Davies, Parkin, Richard Hunt, Crysell. The big furry rabbit was won - to everyone's delight - by music teacher James Wood's mother. He now has to contemplate a journey to Derbyshire with the rabbit occupying a front seat so as to deliver the prize!

CRICKET : Congratulations to our cricketers - we have come top in all four district leagues. The Year 9 team are unbeaten in two years and Year 7 give promise for the future, being unbeaten this season. The Year 8s lost one fixture so finish equal first as do the Year 10s. Mr. Hill would dearly like to have some cricket nets on site to help us compete on more equal terms in competitions such as the County Cup.

Sports Day was dominated by athletes from Leith House who swept the board for trophies - only the Year 10 boys from Juniper managed to wrest a trophy from them. 14 school records were broken, the majority coming from the present Year 7.

From Mrs. Kirton, SEN Co-ordinator -'This year the SEN department will have said goodbye to three much valued Special Needs Assistants. Last term Diana Webb left to work in the Mental Health area, and this term we lose Jane Hughes and Anne Goodheart-Smythe. Anne is joining the world of office work and Jane will be training to teach in the primary sector - at least we haven't put everyone off working in schools! We wish them all well with their new careers and would like to thank them for all their hard work helping children and the SEN department at Therfield'.

Staff and Sixth Form students have elected Matt Enston and Leah Perona-Wright as Senior Students for the coming year.

SCIENCE VISIT TO BANGOR: 'First class', 'well organised', 'absolutely brilliant', 'it was great fun and the work was interesting', 'the lecturers went on a bit and some of it was over my head', 'really worthwhile, my best trip ever' - just some of the comments from Year 10 pupils following the Science trip which was based at the University College of North Wales.

A special plea from the Office staff - please do see that all possessions are named. We can return articles or clothing if they have a name otherwise they join our 'lost properly' collection.
