Sailing on two yachts out of Portsmouth, they visited Lymington, Newtown, Poole and Southampton Ocean Village, before returning to their home port. In spite of poor visibility at the start, the sun did finally manage to break through and there were some good winds and very pleasant sailing conditions. All reported they had very much enjoyed the experience and had learnt a great deal about sailing bigger boats and navigation. Sailing Club Well done to John Bull who was awarded the Surrey Schools Young Sailor of the Year Award at the regatta on Saturday. John gained this trophy as a result of his positions in all the races held since last September. Donald O' Donovan was 2nd and Fred Hunter was 3rd for this award. There will be a TYM visit on Thursday and the signing up list is outside N9. Sailing Club will be taking place on Wednesday lunch time as usual. Sponsored Sail We would like to hear from any past members of Therfield Sailing Club and their parents who might like come to this special event. Present members and their families are most welcome. Japan Days On Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th May, a little bit of Japan came to Therfield School. All Year 9 students experienced different aspects of Japan. They listened to Japanese 'pop' music and created their own, designed and built earthquake proof buildings out of straws, only to be destroyed by the mighty earthquake simulator and practised martial arts moves. Masks, dragons and manga cartoons were created in art and the national game of soft ball was played out on the school field. On Thursday we were lucky enough to have four Japanese visitors in for the day. They showed students how to make origami hats, rabbits and swans and dressed volunteers in kimonos. Whilst all these activities were running, there was also a dedicated press pack taking photographs and interviewing students and teachers about their experiences. The Sumo and The Nippon News were created to record the events. Lots of fun was had by all. Trips Prayer Group The next meeting will be on Monday 27th June at 8pm in the school.
