ADMISSIONS - Intake at Year 3
If your child attends a Surrey infant school and is in Year 2 you
will receive a booklet, Information for Parents, which
is published by Surrey County Council. This gives details of the
procedure for admission to The Woodville School.
The Woodville School will admit pupils up to the published
admission number. When there are more applications than there are
places available we adhere to Surrey County Council's admissions
criteria.
We recognise that starting a new school is an exciting and
challenging time for both children and parents. We aim to ensure
that children are effectively prepared for the transition by
liaising closely with our main feeder schools.
Two visits for the children and their parents are organised
during the summer term. This enables children, parents and
teachers to begin to get to know each other.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE & REGISTRATION
1. Parents have a duty to ensure that their child attends school
daily. Your child should only be absent if the reason is
'unavoidable'.
2. Children must arrive on time for the start of each school
session.
3. Every half-day absence from school is classified by the school
as either 'authorised' or 'unauthorised'. All absences must be
accompanied by a letter from parents explaining the reason for
the absence.
'Authorised' absences are mornings or afternoons away from school
due to unavoidable causes such as illness.
'Unauthorised' absences are those which the school does not
consider reasonable and for which no 'leave' has been given.
Unauthorised absences include unexplained absences and children
who arrive too late to be marked into the register (i.e. after
9.05 a.m.).
4. All holiday leave in term time is at the discretion of the
Headteacher. Provided the request is made in advance in writing
by the parent, leave for up to 10 days per school year may be
granted. 'Holiday Permission' forms are available from the school
office.
Registration is a legal requirement and The Woodville School's
policy is in line with the Education (Pupils' Attendance Records)
Regulation 1991 and the Education (Pupil Registration)
Regulations 1995. A full copy of the Attendance and Registration
Policy is available from the school office.

ILLNESS
AT SCHOOL
From time to time a child becomes ill or is hurt whilst in
school. Please ensure that we have a contact number
so that we can inform you promptly.
Any injury to the head, however minor, could result in
complications, so we always inform parents by 'phone of such an
injury.
There are occasions when children are sent unfit to
school. We do not have the staff or accommodation to
cope with this situation, so please help us by keeping your child
at home. A day or two away in the early stages may prevent a
longer absence later. Children should never be sent to school
within 24 hours of vomiting having occurred.
Children taking medication for illness should be
at home but if medication has to be brought to school the
medicine must be clearly labelled with the child's name, class
and dosage and given in to the school office immediately on
arrival at school. No child must have any form of medication on
him/her in the classroom or cloakroom. Cough sweets, lozenges,
etc. are discouraged.

ADDRESSES
Any change of address must be notified
immediately. Daytime address/work and telephone numbers are
essential. Accident or illness in school does happen and we must
be able to contact parents in such an emergency. Parents are
asked to complete an Emergency Contact
card on their child's admission to the school - please complete
and return promptly.

SECONDARY
TRANSFER
Children will leave The Woodville School at the end of Year 6
(11+). The children who are transferring will have opportunities
to visit local Secondary Schools in their final year.

DISCIPLINE
Our main aim is to develop self discipline in
the children, alongside a positive, caring and respectful
attitude towards each other. Initial insistence on good manners,
appropriate behaviour and hard work gives way to a natural desire
for self control and production of work of quality.
We try to make sure that any sanctions necessary are fair and
sensible and have meaning for the child. For more serious matters
or persistently bad behaviour, parents are always informed and
invited into school for discussion. We ask parents to co-operate
and support us. The school has a 'Behaviour Policy' and a set of
'School Rules', both of which are available on request.

APPOINTMENTS
We welcome visits from prospective parents and their children. An
appointment may be made by contacting the school office on 01372
813615. There is also an opportunity to visit the school on our Open
Day, which takes place early in the autumn term.

GOVERNORS'POLICY ON CHARGING FOR
SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
By law no charge can be made for any activity which takes place
wholly or mainly during school hours. This is to ensure that no
child is excluded on the grounds of non-payment. In order to
cover the costs the Governing body has decided to adopt the
County Policy which involves the following procedure:
1 . We will inform you of any proposed special activity or visit
and invite you to make voluntary contributions towards the cost.
2. We will then decide whether the activity or visit will take
place and advise you accordingly. Parents having financial
difficulties are asked to approach the headteacher confidentially
and arrangements may be made to assist.

COMPLAINTS
PROCEDURE
According to Section 23 of the Education Reform Act 1988 there
are arrangements for complaints about the actions of Governing
Bodies in Surrey County Council Local Education Authority in
respect of the School Curriculum and related matters. The
Document and Form Comp/1, available from the school on request,
will explain how complaints can be lodged or heard.
