Civilian War Dead
No. of identified casualties: 8 local, plus 36 (*)
who were brought to a Leatherhead hospital from outside the Urban
District. The Royal Blind School, Leatherhead, was requisitioned
by King's College Hospital as a national emergency hospital
during World War Two. It was known as Leatherhead
Emergency Hospital (Royal Blind School), and only
existed under this name from 1939 to 1946. Thereafter it was used
to house Chelsea Pensioners until the 1950s when the school
reopened.
